Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the viewer reception and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.
Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.
“It feels like constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's by design. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”
“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.
The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan See the Conclusion of Pluribus?
Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? Essentially yes… sort of.
“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
On the other hand, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.
“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Alternatively, why mess with the classics?
“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
