Triple MVP Nikola Jokic endures a 'devastating' leg setback.
Triple National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half in an inadvertent collision with team-mate Spencer Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of Jokic, who promptly went down to the ground holding his knee.
The 30-year-old, that is leading the NBA season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the game prior to suffering the problem.
He will have an MRI on the following day to evaluate the seriousness of the issue.
"Immediately, Jokic knew something was wrong," said Nuggets head coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, especially a player as talented as Jokic. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"We will continue as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I'm more worried about him as a person and the frustration of going through something of that nature."
