Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged 23 playoff homers, making him third on the list behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"There's probably not another player in the world that I'd prefer in that situation except for Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.

Toronto's team claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
