The Two Fatalities Named in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Continue Hunt for Gunman.
Two students who died in the weekend's violent attack on the university campus had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their killer carried on following the discharge by Rhode Island officials of the sole person detained in connection in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a ceremony on Sunday.
She served as second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies publicly, stating: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”
An International Student
The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.
His name was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” his sibling Samira said in a memorial statement.
Details of the Attack
Nine other people were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Authorities said on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was set to be freed.
“We have a murderer out there,” declared Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.
Neronha explained, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”
Public Fear
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our city”.
The assailant opened fire inside a room in the building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a handgun, a police source informed the news agency.
Officers that entered the inn recovered a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the suspect was taken into custody, as was reported.
Those Hurt
Of the nine hurt, one student was released from the hospital, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.
An educational institution, a private K-12 school in North Carolina, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Cook was remembered at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only during her upbringing... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that institution as well.”
A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.
Jonathan Henick, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, companions, and fellow students and lament the passing of his promising future.”
