The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this charming family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
