The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground
England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, on the condition that they secure the anticipated qualification for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
City’s stadium has not welcomed an English men’s game since eight years ago, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to welcome the national team for their first match on June 10, 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, should they win Group B, their knockout stage opener would be held at St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean beginning the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Opening and Protest
The event was unveiled at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the host football associations were heckled as they approached the venue by approximately 50 protesters, who urged Israel’s national side to be kicked out from the sport because of the conflict in Gaza.
Banners were held up with slogans reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Fixture List
The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a game that will feature the Dragons if they make it.
Wembley will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be staged on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help connect with a broader range of viewers.
Host Nations
The Irish team are set to play their opening match at the Dublin stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the qualification path.
Locations and Playoffs
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the nine host stadiums. Every stadium will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals staged at each country’s national stadium.
The qualifying draw will be held in Belfast, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it emerged the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
