Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
