Shock as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was approached by three suspects, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no arrests have taken place, police said.
Details of the Attack
Law enforcement said that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a building near the Carlton Centre.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, it was reported.
"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.
Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the incident.
Important clues, like spent shells, were recovered from the crime scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their destination," stated a police chief.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, a close relative, expressed the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.
"I am in shock. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were willing to tackle. This is a devastating blow."
She requested the public to avoid sharing graphic images from the scene, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's three sons.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that was broadcast on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
In addition to his media career, Stock was involved in various commercial activities, including protective services, providing elite guarding services and protecting high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and was involved in tenant removals.

His killing has shocked the country and prompted an wave of remembrances from his fans, the government and political parties.
A senior figure said he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's murder.
"He expressed his views fearlessly and impartially. He even spoke up against me and my decisions as a public official. He was a pure example of who we ought to be," the minister added.
A party figurehead commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A media executive noted that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a passionate music lover and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every moment on screen. His commitment to his craft left an indefinable mark."
In a communication, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his legacy "will be remembered".
