Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD shared video stills Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
