Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck areas associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with notable success and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.

Officials reported debris landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
