Fans Urge Arrest of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are urging that a person who leaped a barricade and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "let go after being detained", though court documents revealed that he was due to be present on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has crashed a performance. His Instagram feed features clips of him disturbing other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Grande's Past Trauma
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further message on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals called for digital services to block Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips circulating online, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of fans had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore mall, including some who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-film adaptation of the acclaimed theatrical show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two very different characters.
The production itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and scored 10 Academy Award nods, earning several for best costume and production design.
